How to Pay SBI Card Bill via Net Banking of Other Banks

SBI Cards and Payment Services Limited — the issuer of SBI credit cards — is separate from State Bank of India's retail banking division. This means holding an SBI credit card does not require a State Bank of India savings account, and a very large proportion of SBI credit card holders maintain their primary banking relationship with a different institution. Paying the SBI card bill from an HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, or any other bank's account is not only possible — it is the standard payment route for these cardholders.

Most Indian banks' net banking portals offer one or more mechanisms for credit card bill payment that work across issuers. This guide covers the two primary methods — the biller registration route through the bill payment section, and the NEFT beneficiary route through fund transfer — and explains how each works in practice.

Method one: adding SBI Card as a biller in the other bank's net banking bill payment section

The most integrated and convenient route for paying an SBI credit card bill through another bank's net banking is to add SBI Card as a registered biller in the bill payment section of the source bank's portal. Most major Indian banks support BBPS — the Bharat BillPay System — within their net banking portal, which allows customers to add credit card issuers as billers and pay bills directly without any external platform.

To use this route, log into your primary bank's net banking portal — for example, HDFC Bank's net banking, ICICI Bank's net banking, or Axis Bank's net banking. Navigate to the Bill Payments, Pay Bills, or Financial Services section. This is typically found in the top navigation or the left-hand menu.

Within the bill payment section, look for Credit Card as a biller category and select it. From the list of supported billers, find and select SBI Card or SBI Cards. Enter your sixteen-digit SBI credit card number when prompted. The portal fetches your current outstanding balance from SBI Card's systems via BBPS — this may take a few seconds. Verify the displayed outstanding amount against your actual SBI Card statement before proceeding.

Choose the payment amount — the total amount due is always recommended for complete financial protection. Select your savings account as the payment source and submit. Authenticate using the OTP or transaction password as required by the source bank's security protocol. A confirmation is generated with a BBPS acknowledgement number — save this as your proof of payment.

Once SBI Card is registered as a biller in the source bank's portal, subsequent monthly payments require only selecting the saved biller, entering the payment amount, and authenticating. The outstanding balance is fetched automatically each time, making the monthly payment process fast and requiring minimal data entry.

Method two: adding SBI Card as an NEFT beneficiary

For source banks whose net banking portal does not support BBPS-based credit card bill payment, or for cardholders who prefer direct bank-to-bank transfers, the NEFT beneficiary method is a reliable alternative.

In this method, the SBI credit card account is treated as a bank account for the purpose of receiving NEFT transfers. SBI Card has designated a specific IFSC code and account number format for receiving credit card payments via NEFT. The details to use are as follows: the NEFT IFSC code is SBIN00CARDS and the account number is your sixteen-digit SBI credit card number. The account name should be your name as it appears on the SBI credit card. The account type is entered as Current for NEFT beneficiary setup purposes for most bank portals, though some may accept Savings — verify with your source bank if there is uncertainty.

Always verify these NEFT beneficiary details from the SBI Card official website or SBI Card customer care before initiating any transfer, as the bank may update its payment collection details over time.

To add the SBI Card as an NEFT beneficiary, log into your source bank's net banking or mobile banking. Navigate to the fund transfer or beneficiary management section and select Add New Beneficiary. Choose NEFT as the transfer type. Enter the SBI Card IFSC code, your SBI credit card number as the account number, your name, and the account type. Submit the beneficiary addition. Most banks impose an activation wait period — typically thirty minutes to four hours — after adding a new beneficiary before transfers can be initiated. In a maker-checker corporate banking setup, the checker's approval is also required.

Once the beneficiary is active, navigate to the NEFT transfer section, select the SBI Card beneficiary, enter the payment amount, and authenticate. The UTR — Unique Transaction Reference — number generated after the NEFT is initiated is your proof of payment and the reference for tracing the transaction if needed.

Paying SBI Card bill from HDFC Bank net banking via biller

HDFC Bank's net banking portal includes a robust bill payment section powered by BBPS. After logging into HDFC Bank net banking, navigate to the Bill Pay section under the Requests or Payments tab. Select Add Biller, choose Credit Card as the biller category, and find SBI Card in the list. Enter your SBI credit card number and activate the biller. Once active, the HDFC net banking portal displays your SBI card's outstanding amount for each payment cycle, allowing payment directly from your HDFC savings account without leaving the HDFC portal.

Paying SBI Card bill from ICICI Bank net banking via biller

ICICI Bank's net banking and iMobile Pay app both support BBPS-based credit card bill payment. In ICICI Bank net banking, navigate to the Payments and Transfer section and find the Credit Card Bill Payment or Biller Registration option. Select SBI Card from the biller list, enter your card number, and register the biller. Once registered, the outstanding amount is fetched for each payment, and the bill is paid directly from your ICICI savings or current account.

Paying SBI Card bill from Axis Bank net banking via biller

Axis Bank's net banking portal offers credit card bill payment under the Bill Payments section. Select SBI Card from the supported billers, enter your SBI credit card number, and register the biller. Subsequent payments are made by selecting the saved biller and entering the payment amount. The process is identical in structure to HDFC and ICICI and uses the same BBPS infrastructure.

Processing time and payment reflection

For BBPS-based biller payments made through another bank's net banking, the payment typically reflects on the SBI credit card account within one to two working days. The BBPS acknowledgement number generated at the time of payment is the reference for tracing the transaction if it does not reflect within this window.

For NEFT-based payments to the SBI Card beneficiary, the NEFT settles in the next available batch — typically within thirty to sixty minutes during business hours on working days. After settlement, SBI Card's internal posting process adds a further one to two working days before the card account is updated. Initiate NEFT payments at least three to four working days before the due date to accommodate the full chain.

Which method to use

The BBPS biller method — available through most major banks' net banking portals — is more convenient for recurring monthly payments because the biller is saved permanently, outstanding amounts are fetched automatically, and the payment is processed through a standardised, formally acknowledged system. The NEFT method is useful as a fallback when the source bank's portal does not support BBPS bill payment or when larger amounts exceed BBPS per-transaction limits.

For the simplest and fastest cross-bank SBI Card payment without any portal setup, UPI through any major payment app — Google Pay, PhonePe, Amazon Pay — with SBI Card registered as a BBPS biller remains the most accessible alternative and works from any bank account linked to a UPI handle.
