How to Pay Credit Card Bill Using Samsung Pay
Samsung Pay is Samsung's integrated payment platform available on a wide range of Samsung Galaxy smartphones. In India, Samsung Pay functions as a UPI-enabled payment application that supports contactless payments, peer-to-peer transfers, and bill payments — including credit card bill payments through the Bharat BillPay System. For Samsung device users, it offers the convenience of managing payments through the device's native interface without needing to install or navigate a separate payment app.
Understanding Samsung Pay in India
Samsung Pay in India operates primarily as a UPI-based payment platform. It supports the same UPI rails that power Google Pay and PhonePe — meaning it links to a bank account, generates a UPI handle on that account, and allows transactions through the NPCI-regulated UPI infrastructure. In addition to UPI, Samsung Pay supports NFC-based contactless payments at merchant terminals.
For credit card bill payments specifically, Samsung Pay uses BBPS — the Bharat BillPay System — the same national bill payment infrastructure used by other major payment platforms. This means the bill payment feature on Samsung Pay is functionally equivalent to BBPS-based bill payment on any other platform, with the key difference being the device-native interface and the Samsung ecosystem integration.
Samsung Pay is pre-installed on most mid-range and flagship Samsung Galaxy devices. If it is not visible on your device, it can be downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store or the Google Play Store. The app requires a Samsung account for setup and a supported bank account for UPI registration.
Step one: setting up Samsung Pay for UPI bill payments
Open Samsung Pay on your Samsung smartphone. If you have not set it up previously, you will be prompted to sign in with your Samsung account and complete the initial setup. During setup, you will be asked to add a payment method. For UPI-based bill payments, select the UPI option and choose your bank from the list of supported banks.
To link your bank account, enter your mobile number registered with that bank and verify it using an OTP. Then verify your debit card details for the selected bank account — you will need the debit card number, expiry date, and the last six digits of your debit card. Complete the setup by creating a UPI PIN for the linked account. This UPI PIN is what you will use to authenticate credit card bill payments.
Once your bank account is linked and the UPI handle is created, Samsung Pay is ready for credit card bill payments.
Step two: navigating to the credit card bill payment section
Open Samsung Pay and navigate to the home screen of the app. Depending on your device and app version, the home screen may show quick-access payment options or a navigation menu. Look for the Bill Pay, Pay Bills, or Financial Services section within the app. Samsung Pay's bill payment feature is powered by BBPS and covers multiple biller categories including credit cards, utilities, insurance, and more.
Select Credit Card as the bill category. Samsung Pay will display a list of supported credit card issuers — major banks including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI Card, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank, RBL Bank, Yes Bank, IDFC First Bank, and others are typically listed. If your card issuer is not immediately visible, use the search function to find it by name.
Step three: adding your credit card as a biller
Select your credit card issuer from the list. Samsung Pay will prompt you to enter your credit card number — the sixteen-digit number on the front of your card. Enter it carefully and verify it before proceeding.
Once the card number is entered, Samsung Pay fetches your current outstanding balance from the biller's system via BBPS. This fetch may take a few seconds. When the outstanding amount is displayed, verify it against your card statement or the card issuer's app to confirm accuracy before proceeding.
Samsung Pay saves your credit card as a registered biller for future use. On subsequent payment occasions, the saved biller appears on the bill payment home screen, allowing you to pay without re-entering the card number.
Step four: selecting the payment amount and source
After the outstanding amount is displayed, you can choose to pay the full amount shown — which corresponds to the total amount due — or enter a custom amount. For complete financial protection — avoiding interest charges and preserving your interest-free grace period — always pay the total amount due rather than a partial amount.
Select your UPI-linked bank account as the payment source. If you have multiple bank accounts linked to Samsung Pay, choose the account with sufficient balance. The available balance may be displayed alongside the account details to assist your selection.
Step five: confirming and authenticating the payment
Review the payment summary screen carefully before authenticating. Verify the credit card issuer name, the last four digits of the card number displayed, the payment amount, and the source bank account. If all details are correct, proceed to authenticate using your UPI PIN.
Enter your UPI PIN when prompted. The payment is processed through the UPI and BBPS infrastructure. Upon successful authentication and processing, Samsung Pay displays a payment confirmation screen showing the transaction reference number, the BBPS acknowledgement number, the payment amount, and the date and time of the transaction. Screenshot this confirmation or note the BBPS acknowledgement number as your proof of payment.
A confirmation SMS is also sent to your registered mobile number linked to the UPI bank account.
How long does it take for the payment to reflect on the card account?
Samsung Pay credit card bill payments processed through BBPS typically reflect on the card account within one to two working days, consistent with BBPS-based payments on other platforms. The debit from your source bank account occurs immediately upon successful UPI PIN authentication. The credit on the card account follows after the BBPS routing and the card issuer's internal posting are complete.
If the payment has not reflected after two working days, check your source bank account to confirm the debit occurred. If debited, contact Samsung Pay's customer support or the card issuer's customer care with the BBPS acknowledgement number to trace the payment.
What to do if Samsung Pay does not support your card issuer
If your credit card issuer does not appear as a supported biller in Samsung Pay's bill payment section, you have two options. First, check for updates to the Samsung Pay app — the list of supported billers expands over time with app updates, and your issuer may have been added in a recent version. Second, use an alternative payment channel for that specific card — a UPI app such as Google Pay or PhonePe, which typically has broader BBPS biller coverage — while continuing to use Samsung Pay for other payments.
Samsung Pay bill payment and security
Samsung Pay processes payments through UPI, which means the security framework is identical to other UPI apps. Your UPI PIN is authenticated by your bank's system and never stored or accessed by Samsung. Samsung Pay additionally uses Samsung Knox — Samsung's proprietary security platform — to protect payment data stored on the device. Biometric authentication — fingerprint or facial recognition — can be configured as an additional layer of access security for the app.
