How to Link Your Credit Card to UPI: A Complete Setup Guide
UPI has traditionally been linked to bank savings or current accounts, with payments debited directly from your bank balance. A significant evolution in the UPI ecosystem is the ability to link RuPay credit cards to UPI, enabling users to make UPI payments using their credit limit rather than their bank balance. This opens up a new dimension of convenience and flexibility for everyday digital payments.
Which Credit Cards Can Be Linked to UPI
Currently, the ability to link a credit card to UPI is available for RuPay credit cards issued by participating banks. RuPay is India's domestic card network operated by NPCI, and its integration with UPI is a natural extension of the NPCI ecosystem. Visa and Mastercard credit cards are not yet supported for UPI linking as of the current regulatory framework. If you hold a RuPay credit card from a participating bank, you can link it to your UPI application and use it for UPI transactions.
How Linking a Credit Card to UPI Works
When you link a RuPay credit card to your UPI application, the card is added as a payment source alongside your existing linked bank accounts. When you initiate a UPI transaction, you can choose whether to pay from your bank account balance or from your linked credit card. The payment is processed through the UPI network just like a regular bank account transaction, and the amount is charged to your credit card rather than debited from your savings account. Your credit card's billing cycle, credit limit, and repayment terms remain exactly as set by your card issuer.
How to Link Your RuPay Credit Card to UPI on Stashfin
To link your RuPay credit card on Stashfin, navigate to the UPI section of the app and look for the option to add a payment method or link a credit card. Select your card network as RuPay and enter your credit card details as prompted — this typically includes your card number, expiry date, and a one-time verification step. Once verified, your credit card appears as an available payment source within the UPI section. You can then select it when making payments, just as you would select a linked bank account.
Benefits of Linking a Credit Card to UPI
The primary benefit is the ability to use your credit limit for UPI payments, which is particularly useful when your bank account balance is low but you need to make an urgent payment. Credit card rewards, cashback, and offers from your card issuer may also apply to transactions made through UPI, though this depends on the specific terms of your credit card program. The convenience of a single UPI interface for both bank account and credit card payments simplifies money management significantly.
Important Considerations
Payments made through a linked credit card on UPI are treated as credit card transactions and will appear on your credit card statement. Standard credit card interest charges apply if the outstanding amount is not paid by the due date. UPI person-to-person transfers using a linked credit card may not be permitted in all cases — the feature is primarily intended for merchant payments. Always check your credit card's terms and conditions and your issuing bank's guidelines for clarity on eligible transaction types and any applicable fees.
Managing Your Linked Credit Card on UPI
You can view, manage, and remove your linked credit card at any time from the UPI section of the Stashfin app. If your card is replaced, expired, or cancelled, remember to update or remove it from your UPI application to avoid payment failures. Keeping your linked payment methods current ensures a smooth payment experience every time.
UPI transactions are governed by NPCI guidelines. Stashfin is an RBI-registered NBFC. Please ensure transaction details are correct before confirming payment.
